Alaskan Trip Journal

Date: Wednesday, August 6, 2003

Starting Location: De Motte Campground, Kaibab National Forest (AZ)

Destination: Bernalillo, NM (9 miles north of Albuquerque)

Trip Description: Our drive today took us through the Four Corners region. We got an early start today. In the first two hours, we descended 3000 feet to the Colorado River at Marble Canyon. We drove eastward through Page, Arizona into the Navajo Nation. We ate lunch at a roadside cafe. I had chili with fry bread, a Navajo specialty. It was really good, but not for someone on a diet.

After lunch, we continued to the Four Corners. This is the only place in the United States where four states meet. It is in a Navajo Nation park. There are some vendors selling food and Navajo jewlry. We bought a pot that will be used to hold a cactus we have at home.

From the Four Corners, we headed into New Mexico. We drove through Shiprock to the KOA in Albuquerque. It's time to get to sleep. We have a long drive ahead of us.
