Alaskan Trip Journal

Date: Wednesday, July 9, 2003

Starting Location: Helena, MT

Destination: Calgary, AB (Canada)

Trip Description: We got started around 9 today. The route northward would take us through Great Falls, to the Canadian border at Sweetgrass, MT. We had no trouble crossing the border. Laura and I stopped for lunch at the tourist information center in Milk River. We learned that the Calgary Stampede is happening this week. Many of the campgrounds in Calgary would be full. The attendant at the tourist center called some campgrounds and found us a space at Pine Creek RV Campground. We drove north through many small towns, including Lethbridge. Lethbridge is a medium-sized town. We stopped at Canadian Tire for some supplies, and dropped off our empty beer bottles for $6 in spending money. We arrived in Calgary around 7:00 this evening. There was time to cook a Mexican diner and shower before bedtime. It's 10:20 and the sun just went down. The days sure are long here. They will be longer as we head northward.
