Starting Location: Huron, SD

Destination: Huron, SD

Trip Description: Today, we're resting in Huron while the RV gets new hoses. Laura traveled with a friend of the family to De Smet. They visited the homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie). I stayed in Huron with the family, considering I had already visited the Wilder homestead. We enjoyed a large meal at noon consisting of beef BBQ sandwiches, potato salad, beans, ham and other side dishes. We had plenty to eat. We learned that people around here eat their largest meal of the day around noon (called "dinner"). They eat again in the evening, but it's not a large meal. They call this "supper". This came as a bit of culture shock. It's easier on our digestive systems not to eat a large meal late in the day. Whatever the reason, it seems like a good idea. Tomorrow we will be heading to Pierre (pronounced PEER not PEE-AIR). The trip should take about 3 hours. We will meet up with cousins Dave and Jim Carslile. We plan to stay at the Carslile ranch on the Bad River for a couple of days before moving on to the Black Hills.
